Major changes in society can come about through various means. This includes changes in such institutions as the Health Care Industry.

Although most changes in the health care system are promoted from within, that does not necessarily have to be the case. In fact there are major advantages to new health care system concepts being developed from outside the medical industry. The proposed national medical information system being discussed in these articles was designed by an individual completely outside the medical profession. This provides more freedom of design, especially if you prefer to favor the public’s interests over the interests of the medical profession. Without the influence of medical industry in the background influencing the design, the public’s best interest may well be more easily served, ending up with a more balanced system. We may find this to be especially true where new applications using the latest in technology are involved.

For example, again take the proposed disease prevention system. Because of the sharp reduction in the level of chronic disease, such a system would have a dramatic short term financial effect upon the medical industry. Conservative estimates are 40% deduction in disease levels within the first few years of operation and a high as 70%, or more eventually.

Although there are advantages to such designs by individuals, there are also limitations. An individual would likely be unable to sustain the continual promotion of such a system over a substantial period of time—providing a far shorter window of opportunity to establish the system before it likely fades from the picture.

This would be especially true if the design of the system was presented in the form of a published book not available in book stores. As a result, the book, the author, and designer could be forced from the picture in a relatively short period of time if there was a lack of public interest and support. If this were to happen, this type of system may not again be brought forth for decades if ever.

Although we are constantly bombarded, with all the medical research breakthrough media hype, including all the promises of the future that never seem to arrive, one thing we have to keep clearly in mind is that we rarely ever hear about the extremely high levels of chronic disease in the United States and the enormous amount of suffering it causes with millions of people. Nor does the hype include the additional suffering that also goes on because of the enormous health care costs. These costs are having a devastating effect on the country, including the government, businesses and individuals. We are able to witness this suffering on a personal basis through our loved ones, friends and neighbors. The question is, are we willing to live with that? Is that level of disease acceptable?

There is another consideration involved here. Whenever we receive anything of value usually there is a financial cost we have to consider—cost verses benefit. With this system, however, that too is also very unusual. Here there are amazing benefits in both directions, both in health care and costs.

Ironically on top of that, with even a limited amount of interest, it can easily be determined that the proposed system does have a very solid basis for success and in fact it would be difficult to see how it could be unsuccessful due to the core underlying basis of the design.

As discussed earlier in theses articles and in the book, the underlying basis of the proposed system is the use of a carefully designed computer processing system taking full advantage of the very latest in clinical laboratory science technology. This data would be processed through the use of the latest computer technology (including large supercomputer systems) in correlating massive amounts of proven reliable clinical laboratory data to human health and the individual human environment.

Sometimes, as individuals, we are afforded rare opportunities for a limited period of time to dramatically improve our lives.

One of the major concerns involving the use of large computer systems in processing medical data is the concern for the compromising of personal confidential health data.

The storage of confidential medical records in large computer systems could be prone to abuse, either by big business or government agencies.

However, the proposed system was designed to avoid those shortcomings in all three major areas—there is no accumulation of individual health records, no storage of any confidential medical records in any state diagnostic or national research computers, and furthermore the proposed system doesn’t even transfer any confidential patient data. All patient confidential records would retained in the doctor’s office, the same as the current policy, and the doctor would still maintain control over those records. Furthermore, there is an additional feature within the proposed system that would provide far more protection over medical records even in the doctor’s office

Such a design is necessary because there is a critical need for a large and powerful computer system that has the capacity to process huge amounts of health data. Such a system could dramatically improve our lives by; increasing our level of wellness, dramatically reducing the high level of disease and the cost of health care.

Imagine not having to live with the day to day concern over your health and the health of your loved ones, along with the very high cost of health insurance? The difference in the cost of health care savings alone could easily provide for luxurious annual vacations, new cars, or even a better home.

Electronic applications in the medical field began in the 1970s but became far more popular during the 1980s. Those electronic applications were primarily in the form of sophisticated electronically operated machines and tools such as cat-scans Xrays and sophisticated surgical tools. Much of the electronics was in the form of micro computers. As we know, these applications were, and are, primarily for the control and evaluation of disease. Computers applications can also be every bit as effective in disease prevention and wellness development, but in a completely different way—through the application of the computer’s assimilative and correlative powers. Supercomputers would need to be included because of the massive amount of health data needed to be processed and related to human health.

Unfortunately, there is a major problem if you’re looking for any support for such a system through the current health care industry. A successful disease prevention system discussed here would seriously interfere with the huge generation of revenue the current medical industry presently enjoys. We can assume that the loss of this revenue would not be taken lightly. So, if the public is interested in such a program then it will have to strongly support such a system and insist that congress legislate it into being. The public can rest assured that such a system will not be handed to it.

So, on a personal basis what might you do? First, look into the health and wellness proposal and see if you feel it has merit and when you’re satisfied that it does contact your US Representatives and Senators and ask them to look into the merit of the system for legislation enactment.

It’s sad but true that today a truly effective preventative system doesn’t really even exist. Although the technology to provide this type of disease prevention system has been available for several years.

We are currently far behind the curve in taking advantage of technology in the area of disease prevention. Supercomputers with the capacity for over a trillion transactions per second has been available since 1996. The necessary technology in clinical laboratory science for such a system was also available by the mid-nineties. We should already be enjoying many of the benefits that the proposed system would provide. All the emphasis over the years has been in disease control. As great as that is, far more resources must also be invested in the prevention of disease and wellness development. Breakthroughs in disease prevention and wellness development are long over-due.

This is another important application of the special profile pattern—a key ingredient of the proposed system as discussed in previous articles. This is discussed separately and apart from the overall national medical information system so as to allow for a separate and more concentrated evaluation of the underlying strength of the system without being distracted by the many details, or the integrity, of the system as a whole

This particular application of the profile pattern (which was discussed in detail in article 3-12) involves the evaluation of manufactured chemicals and their effect on human health.

The US agriculture department has a copy of all chemicals manufactured in the United States. These would all be acquired and tested for their direct effects on human health as well as certain combinations of chemicals for their synergistic effect.

The volunteer profile pattern tests would not only determine the effect of the chemicals on the human body, but would also establish a specific profile pattern for each chemical, or chemicals combinations, for storage in the computer memory banks for further research and also for use in diagnostic computers.

Most of us have no idea as to how the chemicals in our environment may or may not affect our health, or how they may well be contributing to the excessively high level of disease we are exposed to. In this day and age of advanced technology this is very sad indeed, because it’s no longer necessary.

The tests conducted by the chemical companies or government are very limited and outdated at best in comparison to this far more extensive and effective system.

This profile pattern means of testing, by providing literally millions of subtle overall test results, is the only type of chemical testing that, in this day and age of very high levels of chemicals, can protect us to any degree. The profile pattern will effectively analyze not only the chemicals for the slightest effect on human health, but (and just as important) provide a means of recording those results in the form of a profile pattern that can be recorded and stored in computer memory banks for further research. That same computer profile pattern data would also be made available to the state diagnostic computers systems for health analysis purposes. Individuals being diagnosed by the state diagnostic computer systems would also use the same 100 test profile that was used with the volunteers in the chemical testing. This would allow the thousands of profile patterns established by the chemical volunteer tests, and the profile pattern (test results of the individual being diagnosed) to be compared by the computer to see if there are any matches. Matches would indicate a likely exposure to a given chemical (or chemicals) in the individual’s environment. Other features in the overall system would help narrow down the likely source of exposure or exposures.

I hope that this additional example of the underlying basis of the national medical information system will help to highlight the real essence and the underlying strength of the system.

In 3 -12 we discussed the basis of clinical laboratory science, and why it’s so representative of what’s happening in the human body. In article 4- 12 we discussed details of why there is such a vast amount of critical health related information available in a large clinical laboratory science profile pattern. Imagine any testing procedure so sensitive that it has millions of possible results.

But, why is this so significant in the fight for disease prevention and improved wellness levels? Because, with the right computer system the profile pattern will provide an extremely effective means of testing people for various levels of health along with the means of improving it.

Because of the extreme reach of the profile pattern to measure such minute differences taking place in the human organism, the various individual applications available within the proposed system, are almost limitless.

Initially, how about just recording the profile patterns of all diseased people, healthy people and extremely healthy people.

This information could be stored in the research computer systems with each case being related to the physical condition and the environment of the individual that it came from at the time the blood sample was drawn. When you do tens of millions of such cases a year, as spelled out in the book, a vast data bank is established with which massive amounts of research can be performed.

One significant example: how about hereditary weakness concerns within families with a tendency toward developing certain diseases. Unfortunately, we know this is a fact, but what we don’t know is how simple it may be, in some cases, to solve the problem. It’s possible that some families have such weakness in areas that can be easily resolved. For example, possibly just a simple change or addition to ones diet. Maybe as simple as tomato juice a couple of times a week or certain vegetables, fruits, vitamins, herbs and the list goes on and on. Or how about the avoidance of some chemicals such as insecticides or lawn herbicides or chemicals in food? Is this possible? Could such simple changes be that effective? Common sense dictates that there are very likely many. However we won’t know until we have the opportunity to check it out with this type of information system.

In addition to the tens of millions of cases that would be transmitted to the main national research center section, however, the national research center also has a separate volunteer section. That volunteer section is set up to basically do three things. It is designed to establish all measurable levels of wellness (in addition to disease states), test all chemicals manufactured, and test all possible remedies—including all the natural elements.

Measurable levels of wellness study: 20,000 volunteers would be tested with the profile pattern, every ninety days for five years. At each testing the volunteer’s health would also be recorded. The volunteers would intentionally be selected for the study in all stages of health. So as the study progresses the individual volunteers at their individual stages of health would continue to progress over the five year period some going through minor changes in their health, others major changes, thus providing thousands of measurable health situations. This would allow for the full evaluation of the preceding stages--including the stages preceding disease. It would provide an opportunity to set up the hundreds of analytical profile patterns for the pre-disease stages of health that are now missing—from the disease stages all the way to the normal plus stages.

Health Wellness and Disease Prevention

There has been a dramatic breakthrough involving a new direction in health care far beyond anything we have ever seen to date. In fact its features are so encompassing and so promising that at this time its ultimate degree of success is impossible to comprehend.

This along, with the previous article, discusses the underlying strength of such a system--how could such an outstanding system be possible? How is it logically based?

The core of the proposed system is based on a special application of clinical laboratory science, with the use of a very large profile (100 tests). This application would be able to extract an enormous amount of health data from such a profile. Hopefully, the following will explain how and why.

First, whenever we have multiple tests within our current medical system, we evaluate the lab tests and office tests as a whole. Each test has to be taken into account, but it also has to be weighed in it relationship to the rest of the tests. The overall combination of the tests is the key.

Let's take a look at a situation that most of us are very familiar with. Among other considerations, common tests by our doctor during an office visit are body temperature and two blood pressure measurements. The number of test level graduations used here for each test would be ten.

As an example let's say your body temperature was very high, at 106. Now that in itself would of course be very significant, but it would obviously not provide the doctor with enough information for an accurate diagnosis. Say we now bring the two blood pressure tests both into the picture. Now we have three test results involved and if the results of any one of the three would vary significantly it could obviously affect the diagnosis. Most of us realize how important each of these test results can be. So, the diagnosis is, in effect, limited to the relationship of the individual test results to each other. It is the relationship of the tests that are analyzed for the diagnostic results. For simplification purpose we will refer to this relationship as the combination of the test results. We can see that each combination of test level results could represent a certain health related condition--this would be especially true with the normal use of more tests.

Furthermore, to illustrate the rapid buildup of test result data, it’s difficult to believe that in this limited three test example that mathematically we actually have 1000 possible combinations involved. These are combinations that could be read by a computer for possible meaningful results. All 1000 combinations would not likely provide meaningful information and of course could be eliminated where it was shown that those particular combinations were of little or no value. However, one could expect a large percentage to be of significance, especially so if the computer was used to also correlate all of the possible results directly to human health conditions.

Now let’s apply this same consideration to the much larger 100 test profile. The 3 test had 10 possible graduations each, whereas the 100 profile will only have 5. If we apply the math to this 100 test profile we actually have ten trillion possible combinations. As with the 3 test example, where all 1000 would not likely be of significance, here again neither would all 10 trillion combinations. However, it is obvious that this provides an enormous amount of very relevant data, data that is directly tied to the inter workings of the human organism. Furthermore, the reliability and value of this data has been firmly established over the years as a vital branch of the current medical system.

Although this means of testing a person provides an enormous base of vital health data, obviously a very special electronic processing system is required.

An exciting new direction in health care far beyond anything we have ever seen to date. In fact its features are so encompassing and so promising that at this time its ultimate degree of success is impossible to comprehend.

How would you like to see a new health care information system, working in conjunction with the present medical system, that would reduce disease levels and health care costs initially by over 40% and eventually likely near twice that?

Of course, most of us would like such a program. Even though the changes sound too radical to be true, fortunately, it’s for real. Such a system does indeed have a very sound basis in fact as spelled out in a book titled Vibrant Health Plus: The Real Medical Revolution and in the articles we will be discussing here. These revolutionary advances are possible through a completely new application of advanced technology. Many outstanding accomplishments have been attributed to the computer, but they will all pale in comparison to its beneficial effects on human health if this approach to information processing is allowed to develop.

We may well think that if such a system was in fact available then it would be presented to us through the medical industry—not from outside it.

Unfortunately, this new proposed application of technology has been available but is continually being bypassed by the present medical system. We must keep in mind that not only does preventative medicine generate relatively limited income, but a full-blown preventative health care system as advocated here, would drastically cut into the huge present day profits of the medical establishment.

When you consider the possibility of such a system the most important question that come to mind is, on what possible basis could such a system be based? The answer to that question is through the use of clinical laboratory science and the latest in computer technology. But, why clinical laboratory science?

Regardless of how sophisticated a computer system design may be, if it is not based on good solid input data, the output will be very limited at best. In this case, the source of the data is not only rock solid, but in fact one of the system’s strongest points. You couldn’t have a better source of relevant data on which to build a successful health care information system.

Because CLS is a science based on the biochemical makeup of the human body, it provides an enormous source of vital data about the internal workings of the human organism. Furthermore this is a science that has proven itself to be extremely reliable under applications used within the present medical system. This same CLS would likely be used by your doctor if you had some questionable health problem that required a critical evaluation. In the proposed application, CLS would be used in disease prevention and the promotion of wellness by basically using large test profiles of key blood tests selected by the experts in the CLS profession. As opposed to one or maybe several tests usually used in a disease evaluation, the proposed system would likely use 100 blood tests or more (from one blood sample) for extensive analysis in preventative medicine. The large set of tests would be called a profile and after being applied to the patient, or individual, the profile results would be referred to as a profile pattern. This profile would consist of carefully selected key testing elements of the human organism such as certain hormones, enzymes, proteins and many other vital tests.

As highly selected as each of these special 100 tests would be in their own right, on an individual test basis, the real strength of the profile comes when you observe the profile only as a whole. As an example the capacity of this profile far exceeds the 100 individual bits of data. In fact, that is where the great strength of this system lies. A 100 test profile pattern with five possible different test levels for each test will yield 10 trillion possible combinations. This would be reading every possible combination available. So why is that so valuable? That is very significant indeed and will be discussed in more detail in the following article.

We have been discussing a completely new national medical information system set up solely in the best interest of the public and the individual that would completely change health care as we know it today. Compared to the present high levels of disease the degree and type of results we are discussing in the proposed system seem almost unreal. A major reason for such radical change is that computer technology, as applied to preventative medicine, has been effectively bypassed for the past several years. Technology is now in the position to provide for a very rapid ketch-up in that area. We will likely see dramatic advancements as seen in the 70s and 80s when electronics was first applied to the health care field, primarily in machines and tools—such as cat--scans and operating tools and similar equipment.

The core of the new health care system is based on clinical laboratory science (CLS) data. CLS and its critical relationship to the biochemical makeup of the human body and the great advantages that entails, providing an ideal mechanism on which to base a health care information system. Details of CLS and the bio-chemical makeup of the human body were discussed in the article titled “Your Health Care System: Critical Technology Sidetracked”. So when one decided that a large scale health care information system based on CLS is ideal, design-wise where do you go from there? Just how could such a system be designed to fully harness all of that vital health data. How do you convert that health information into improved human health--more specifically improved levels of wellness, and decreased levels of disease? Obviously it would require the use of the computer with some form of special data processing. The system would need the capacity to evaluate human health levels in general, relate those health levels in turn to an individual’s health condition, to one’s personal environment, and in turn relate that data to millions of other individual’s results. This would be massive amounts of data requiring supercomputers.

The system that has been designed uses a powerful national research center that works in conjunction with 50 state diagnostic computer systems which you as an individual or a patient, would have access to. You could tap into the state diagnostic system with the use of a large profile pattern of clinical laboratory test results (likely 100 separate tests from one blood sample). It would provide you an extremely extensive health analysis as well as a means of intervention at levels almost unbelievable compared to today’s limitations. In fact it would be so outstanding that at first it would likely seem more like science fiction than reality.

This is a highly sophisticated medical information system intentionally designed around the sole interests of the public and the individual, not the medical industry. Because of its effectiveness in the radical reduction in disease levels and its related reduction in health care costs, it would very unlikely ever receive any support from the medical industry. In fact, for the sake of both its effectiveness and integrity, the new system would need to be legislated in existence and controlled by the public through a public commission.

It becomes obvious that for such a system to be successful it needs the strong support of the constituency it represents—you. If that support does not come it very likely will just die a slow death, and as a result we will have to live with the limitations of the present health care system--likely for decades to come.

Anyone that carefully takes the time to look into the details of the proposed information system, observe what it’s based on, how it goes about correlating the public and the individual’s health and environmental data, it become apparent that such a system would almost have to be successful. It would only vary in the detail of its results.

Major changes in health care will change our lives. The question is do we get it now or decades from now? Major breakthroughs are now available in the processing of key health data through the use of the latest technology. Twelve articles will be written on twelve key parts of the proposed system

There has been a dramatic breakthrough involving a new direction in health care far beyond anything we have ever seen. In fact its features are so encompassing and so promising that at this time its ultimate levels of success is impossible to comprehend.

This is a highly sophisticated electronic processing health care system designed solely around the individual’s and the public’s best interest--not around the interests of medical industry.

It involves a very sophisticated national medical information system that would work in conjunction with the current medical system but under independent control by the public through an independent public commission. The system would consist of a national research center and fifty state diagnostic computer systems.

It would cover a very broad range of health issues, major ones being disease prevention, higher levels of wellness, ability to analyze numerous levels of health, intervention capabilities, and accountability issues involving the current medical system. The system is designed to be legislated into existence and as such needs strong public support.

Unfortunately, the application of preventative medicine is at a major disadvantage as far as the current medical system goes. Not only does the practice of preventative medicine provide very limited profit for the doctor involved in it on an individual patient basis, but even worse, any truly effective large scale preventative system (such as this system) would drastically cut into the medical system’s huge present day profits.

This system was designed over a five year period by an electronic engineer—obviously a profession completely outside the medical industry-- one of the key ingredients necessary in the design of the system. The underlying strength of the system is based on taking full advantage of medical data already established within the medical system—the latest in clinical laboratory science—and relating that data to our personal environment and health condition. Clinical laboratory science is a separate branch of the current medical system, a highly computerized and very rapidly advancing science. Currently it is used primarily for disease control and analysis, whereas the proposed system would also use it for disease prevention and wellness. There are hundreds of reliable tests now available in clinical laboratory science in numerous areas such as proteins, hormones, enzyme measurement and numerous others.

Large test profiles would be used such as 100 individuals tests or more which (likely with one blood sample) would be fed into both the research and diagnostic computer systems that would in turn relate that data to an individual’s health, health history, and environment.

The proposed system is set up to literally look at tens of millions of health related bits of critical data to see how they relate to our health and environment. This would be a very sophisticated national medical information system that would be compatible, and work in conjunction with, the current medical system.

We have very limited knowledge as to how the many elements in our environment affect our health on a day to day basis. Sure a few things are obvious, but how do we know, for example, which of the chemicals we are exposed to are creating either short range or long range health problems, or for that matter even our level of wellness and our ability to enjoy life?

What if you had that type of information available from your health care system?

The proposed system also includes a very rapid and effective means of analyzing natural elements such as the 260,000 chlorophyll based plants on earth that have never been evaluated for health related benefits.

Unfortunately we currently have very little knowledge as to what these plants could contribute to human health and well being. A major factor that discourages widespread research is that natural substances cannot be patented—hence no huge profits.

One of our most effective natural discoveries was antibiotics which was discovered by accident in England in 1928. The advantages of mold --a basic plant--and its dramatic effect on killing bacteria was discovered purely by accident. In this day and age of information and technology, having no effective means of thoroughly investigating the natural elements of earth in terms of human health benefits is almost unbelievable. It is especially disheartening when one realizes it is not happening merely because it doesn’t generate enough profit.

This final article covers general aspects of the system including the question; do we really need a major change in the health care system? Also, the importance of natural compounds and why they are not currently being widely researched.

A medical information system, as outlined here in these articles will eventually happen—it’s inevitable, you can’t continue to ignore advancing technology forever--it’s just a matter of time. The problem is, do we want to wait for another fifty or seventy five years for something that could so dramatically affect our lives now? In my opinion, not to pursue such a system at this time, with the technology being available, is almost a crime against humanity

Another question also comes up in some people's minds: Why change the present system when they are promising such wonderful breakthroughs to come? Maybe we won’t really need anything else? Well, just remember, that most of those so called breakthroughs we hear about involve helping you with a disease only, not large scale prevention or wellness programs.

Also, let me read you some comments about those promises from some very prominent experts in the medical field.

1) Dr. Deepak Chopra (a very prominent and brilliant endocrinologist and author) wrote in his book Quantum Healing that he felt the so-called bullet type approach to curing cancer is very unlikely to succeed, and gives several pages on why. Basically, he feels the body is far too intelligent and sophisticated for these simple types of approaches to be effective.

He also mentions the failure in the 1950s of chemotherapy's promise to eradicate cancer within a generation, and then again the failed promise of the seventies, with the so-called great breakthrough of interferon, which of course also failed.

The system promoted here has a number of strong endorsements by holistic doctors who are MDs, but primarily practice preventative medicine. One is a professor on the faculty of the University of Minnesota Medical School. He stated that the proposed system is 20 to 30 years ahead of its time and strongly encouraged me to continue to promote the system to the public.

The proposed medical information system would also be very helpful in terms of further advancing CLS research itself, by providing an ideal mechanism for the testing of new advanced constituents.

Another thing we hear very little about now days is any serious broad scale research of natural compounds. Another major part of the proposed system is its sophisticated means for a very rapid and accurate evaluation of natural elements to see what effect they would have on human health. What are the possibilities involved here? For example there is over 260,000 chlorophyll based plants alone on earth that still need evaluating for possible health benefits. In addition, scientists estimate there are over 50 million invertebrates in the rain forests alone, to say nothing of the oceans. Shouldn't we be seriously attempting to see what they might have to offer us, what they might contribute to our well being? Unfortunately, under the present profit-based system, there is extremely limited motivation to do any broad scale research into this area, because natural elements cannot be patented. We have no idea what this may be costing us in terms of our health, medical expense or for that matter even our future (more details in book on this).

There is limited research by the pharmaceuticals to find natural healing plants that can be analyzed for active chemical ingredients with the hopes of developing patentable pharmaceuticals. Looking at the broad picture, however, this is an extremely limited approach.

If there is a question in your mind about the value of natural compounds and the need for a systematic means of exploring them, let's consider the discovery of antibiotics for a minute.

Penicillin of course came from mold, a form of fungus--a primitive plant. Penicillin was accidentally discovered in 1928 by Dr Fleming in England. While running some bacteria slides in his lab, he went on vacation and accidentally left a window open. The weather took an unusual turn which allowed for mold to develop and drift into the lab and contaminate his slides. The slides were thrown in the garbage, however, fortunately when Dr. Fleming returned, a friend happen to stop by and ask about his research, and so the slides were retrieved from the garbage, and he then discovered what had happened—the mold had killed the bacteria. Even though we need to give Dr. Fleming credit for discovering penicillin, do we want to wait another 50 to 100 years for another outstanding accident? It's essential that we move ahead with natural environmental research, on a large scale basis. It is highly likely we will find many more very valuable health related elements in nature. Furthermore, many of them would likely be available for the price of herbs.

As a final overview, I don’t have time to discuss these items now, but I do want to mention them. The following are just a few areas of interest that are incorporated into the proposed system and discussed in the book:

Solving hereditary deficiency problems

Solving Weight control problems

Fine tuning your body for optimal health, and intervention

Option of using the fee for service health care system, as opposed to only HMOS

Addiction control

Direct reliable testing of all chemicals manufactured in the United States and those shipped in on products as well

Direct reliable testing of all types of remedies for effectiveness and safety—including pharmaceuticals, natural compound remedies and even such considerations as the effects of meditation

Highly sophisticated second and third generation fully automatic home health testing equipment

Also, effective built-in accountability features for the present health care system

Many current day hospital problems and concerns such as in hospital staph infections etc.

Programs and means of selecting the safest hospital, including knowing what their in-hospital infection rates are

Effective program involving the selection of the right doctor and or surgeon

The name given to the new health care system providing levels of wellness far beyond anything we have ever seen is the Computer Correlated Test Information system (CCTI).

The National Research Center’s capabilities were discussed in the previous article. Its results would be available to the 50 state diagnostic computer centers which would in turn be available to you, and would provide an extensive analysis of your health, providing a very accurate diagnosis of your present condition, as well as a sophisticated means of long range fine tuning of your body for optimal health and wellness in addition to other valuable information.

One might summarize the overall system being proposed here as a highly sophisticated and powerful outside medical information system that reaches into a branch of the present medical system (clinical laboratory science through the physicians office) to take full advantage of some of its most powerful analytical data, highly processes that data and then in turn feeds the researched and diagnostic results back into the system it came from--to the physician and the individual.

I spent over five years designing the system and writing the book, and I see essentially no upper limit to the heights this system can reach. I truly feel the system would provide levels of wellness far beyond anything we have ever seen. Thirty to forty supercomputer systems would be researching massive amounts of highly selective health data, twenty four hours a day seven days a week, and then feeding the research results back to the state diagnostic computer systems. In addition, the system is completely open ended and would continue to process health data indefinitely--once this system is put into operation, there is no reason for it to ever shut down. Furthermore, because of the technology involved, it would continue to advance at a very rapid rate. I strongly believe that it would so radically change human lives over a 10 to 20 year period that the potential advantages of this system, at this time, are truly beyond comprehension and for that matter, I believe even beyond our imagination. Conservative estimates are 40% reduction in health care costs alone in the first 10 to 15 years of operation.

Just common sense dictates that if you correlate millions of significant clinical laboratory test result combinations to each individual's health and personal environment, and then in turn correlate those results to tens of millions of other individual's test results, miracle-like health related discoveries will in fact happen.

Now a logical question arises here. If this technology is in fact available than why isn't it being applied by the current medical system? Well, unfortunately the present medical research is heading off in a different direction. It concentrates more on disease diagnosis, remedies and cures--which of course is also very important. It does not however, concentrate on disease prevention and wellness, and unfortunately, there is an obvious motive. There is very limited profit involved in disease prevention. Disease diagnosis and disease control are where all the huge profits are generated! Furthermore, an even stronger motive here is that the proposed system would not only fail to provide additional profits, but would also threaten to drastically cut into the medical industry's huge present-day profits. And all indications are that the drop in profit would in fact be very substantial. As a result the new system being proposed here will have to be supported strongly by the public if it is to come into being. As previously mentioned, this system was intentionally designed around the sole interests of the individual and the public. (Not around the medical profession’s interest).

A short time ago I sent books and a four page condensed letter about the system, to 92 U S Senators asking them to get involved, to look into the system for possible legislative application. They need to hear from you!! We are the beneficiaries of this proposed medical system, a system that would dramatically change our lives. We cannot afford to take the chance of merely leaving that responsibility up to others, with the hope they will put their own business interests, or politics, aside and do the right thing in looking out for our interests! We know how that usually goes.

Given the current level of disease, the high level of suffering and the extreme economic drain on society, in spite of what we are lead to believe today about our health care system, history will not likely be kind to the health care system, as a whole, during this era, with the big question being asked, why did they wait so long to take advantage of the advanced technology? Why did they let so many people suffer, both physically and financially, for so long?

It is difficult to understand how such technology can continue to be ignored by the current medical profession. The technology to provide such miraculous type changes in our health care system are currently fully available and ready for use.

Your Health as Related to Your Complex Environment

Let's say the sloping line in handout B represents our health in general. From the normal-plus level down to the potential disease level area. Although this chart is oversimplified, it does give us a better picture of what we are all presently dealing with on a day to day basis in our lives, and also, in general, what we are trying to accomplish here. It's very sad but true, that we have no idea where we are at on any such line of wellness, up in the healthy areas or down in the disease area, nor do we have the ability to exercise any organized degree of control over our position on any such line.

The disease area is where our present health care system primarily operates. In fact, the present health care system is often referred to as a disease-oriented medical system. We hear a lot about this area, because this is where most research and other medical activities take place, not up in this pre-disease stage area, or for sure not up in the normal-plus area.

(Although I am using only one line here (in handout A) for discussion, and simplification, purposes, the use of a number of lines, possibly representing major body systems, may in fact provide a more realistic representation).

We are told that major diseases such as most cancer, heart problems and the like usually take years to materialize, yet how often is someone given a complete physical examination and a clean bill of health, only to come down with the symptoms of one of these diseases within weeks? Obviously, the person was not likely in good health at the time of the examination; he or she was in reality down in this disease area, or pre-disease stage area, not up here, and for sure not up here in the normal plus area. The hundreds of health level conditions from the disease level up through the normal plus level would be fully established by this system. Currently you are diagnosed to have some level of diseased, or with the absence of that diagnosis, considered to be normal and sent home. What about the hundreds of subtle conditions in between—for example such as your system being slightly out of balance with minor corrections required?

Unfortunately, at this time, the way we usually become aware that we are not normal is when we develop the physical symptoms of a disease or from the results of a lab test. Instead of being up in the normal area, we are sadly down in the disease area or close to it. We often go from what we consider to be a condition of good health to abruptly finding out we have a disease, sometimes a very serious one, often causing a major change in our life, to often with no warning or opportunity for any form of intervention to prevent it. We then can only hope that the disease is curable or at least treatable.

For all practical purposes, basically we are left completely in the dark to struggle with where we are really at on our own. Most of the time we have no idea of how close we are to the potential disease levels. Operating under these conditions most of us just do the best we can, hoping to help ourselves with our level of health, whether it’s through what we eat, an exercise program, what we try to avoid, etc. This is a very weak and vulnerable position to continually be in, but it's currently a fact of life. Unfortunately, it’s about all we can do. That is very sad indeed with the technology available to provide us far far more.

The proposed system, would not only provide you far more knowledge about your true level of health, but in addition, and just as critical, usually how you could have far more control over that level of wellness. The contrast between the current health care situation and what the system being proposed here could provide in terms of preventive and wellness knowledge might be compared to someone just feeling around in the dark, and then having someone come along and turn on the lights.

This article discusses a core element of the proposed national research center and how the supercomputers can relate vital data to disease and prevention and wellness. It also discusses a system that has the means of not only closely monitoring your health in great detail but far more control over it as well.

Now let's take a look at the environmental factors:

In order to exert control over our level of wellness, we clearly also need to take into account external elements that affect our health, and of course that includes our personal environment.

In discussing our environment, we will use the word "environment" in its broadest sense, to include foods, nutrition, and exercise programs so on. However, bringing the environment into the health picture vastly complicates setting up any simple electronic processing system. It requires a far more powerful and sophisticated medical information system, but it's absolutely essential. Any system that does not include the environment cannot be effective. The current high levels of disease and medical expense would only continue. This system does include the environmental elements.

So, how do we go about bringing in such large and diverse amounts of data into some type of format or system so that they can be evaluated as to their affect on our health?

These are just a few examples of the many environmental factors that we are exposed to that can affect our health.

If we look at the upper left side of the page we see typical foods such as tomatoes broccoli and grapefruit, and directly across the page are listed some of the potential concerns for contamination, such as insecticides and herbicides, both widely used in this type of farming now days.

Just below that on the left are meats, poultry, dairy products, and eggs. Here we have additional potential contaminants we need to be especially concerned about--antibiotics and hormones--which are used very extensively by the farmers providing these products. (There are details in the book on the excessive use of chemicals by farmers).

We also have water. Well water is usually inspected by the county for bacteria only, not chemicals.

Then, last, but for sure not least, we have medicines, which could well be some of our most dangerous exposures. There definitely needs to be a far more reliable means of testing the typical pharmaceutical drug. In addition, there is a great need for more effective, friendlier and less expensive medicines. Extensive testing of natural elements is part of this system, which will be discussed later.

Sadly, we don't even really know which chemicals we are ingesting or inhaling let alone the quantity. Also, what about the synergistic effects of these chemical combinations? At this time none of this is known!

Because this involves precious human health, and even life itself, this haphazard method of controlling food and water supply contamination, in this day and age of technology, is very sad indeed, and in my opinion absolutely unnecessary!

Capturing the environmental information for each individual at first seems almost insurmountable, but if we look into it further and with the help of some of the latest technology it is not as difficult as it first appears. For example, one use of technology, that would be very effective and easily applied, is to convert the checkout counter at supermarkets to easily transfer your supermarket orders to a special home computer, by merely having the credit card reader converted over to also read a plastic card you could carry with you. You could pass the card through the card reader the same as a credit card. The reader would recognize it for the type of card it is, read the telephone number on it and transfer details of the total order to a special home computer. This information could be easily downloaded later for use in a health report. Not only would that provide a total list of what you purchased, and avoid detail work on your part, but it would also provide the critical brand names. This would be very valuable in terms of research, in monitoring the quality of food. When significant health problems arose with a particular product, the research and diagnostic computers would be able to actually identify the brand.

This system would be very practical because the supermarkets already have all that store product information on their store computer systems, and such a system would require primarily the conversion of the credit card readers.

Also an environmental staff person would be mandatory in each medical office operation to help input, all environmental data for the patient or individual. This expert’s wages would likely be reimbursed by the government, at least initially, from the huge savings in health care expenses provided by the new system—savings in the hundreds of billions of dollars (there is a small chapter on the economics involved). It should be noted that the environmental data input would be used for research purposes only for the first two or three years, but could likely be used for diagnostic purposes later (there are details in the book on how and why this is so).
